Bluffer's Beach

That awkward moment when you find out that there is a pretty nice beach approximately 30 minutes away from your house. No seriously, right smack in the middle of the GTA there is a little piece of paradise at the base of Toronto's most famous hiking spot; Scarborough Bluffs . Yeah, you can imagine my surprise last week when I thought I was going to hike to the top of the Bluffs only to end up at the beach. The real kicker is that I forgot to pack a swimsuit and as one can expect, with September fast approaching, that would most likely be my first and last trip to the beach this summer. Well, at least I have these gorgeous photos to remember it by and who knows perhaps an autumnal visits is in the cards; you know before winter rears its ugly head with it's endless months of miserable weather.
Anyhow, do enjoy these photos that I took that day and I vow, one day to make it to the top of the Bluffs. Seriously, I feel like the only Torontonian who hasn't been -oy vey.

This past May my mother and I decided to go on a girls trip to Varadero Cuba, to vacation on their sandy beaches and enjoy some time away from life's usual stresses. I am a strong believer that a good vacation can do wonders for your soul. There is something about getting away for a few days that allows you to press restart and recharge your batteries. Prior to this trip I haven't had an actual vacation, one where I was able to swim in an ocean or relax on a beach, in about 5 years. So it is safe to say I really needed this trip.
Usual on my trips I like to be pretty active and explore my new surroundings, however that was not the case this time. I knew early on that I wanted this trip to be solely about relaxing and enjoying each others company so my usual planning and trip itinerary was caste aside. That being said we did plan a day trip into Havana to explore the historic city. I have always heard that visiting the city of Havana is like stepping out of a time machine and I definitely understand why. From the architecture to the old fashioned cars, appropriately called older timers by the locals, the entire city feels like it is set in another time period; which I believe adds to its charm.
Anyway I hope you enjoy these series of photos I took on our tour through Old Town Havana. Our nice tour guide took us around all of the popular sites in Havana, including some history/ art museums, the National Ballet School, The Capital building (El Capitolio), Revolution Square, to name a few. It was a bit of a whirlwind trip but I thoroughly enjoyed our time and I can't wait to visit the city again.

Happy New Year!! I hope you're all soaking up that brand new, fresh start feeling that a new year often brings. I like to compare this feeling to the first day of Spring, but colder. Much much colder. Anyway, today I wanted to share a photo diary of my recent trip to the Royal Ontario Museum. Recently the ROM teamed up with the department store Holt Renfrew to host an exhibit dedicated to Christian Dior. The items in the exhibit have been donated by Toronto Socialites for display in the gallery. If you currently follow me on Instagram some of these photos have already been posted on my page, insert shameless plug to follow me on Insta, but I thought I would share the rest of my photos here. I present to you the final installment of my New York City Travel Diary. Long over due, I know. I honestly forgot just how many photos I had to sort through; a sign of a great trip I assure you. Day three, much like our second day, was jammed packed with activities and sights to see. We began our day on the Upper East Side exploring Central Park. But before we entered the park we had to make a pit stop at the Plaza Hotel. The Plaza has secured its spot as one of NYC most iconic landmarks. Personally I think it is due to the popular Eloise Children Books as well as the squeal for Home Alone (which just so happens to be my favourite Home Alone film). That being said, I am sure some could argue alternative reasons for the Plaza hotel being as well known as it is, but those are mine.

Today on what just so happens to be one of the hottest summer day I've had the pleasure of experiencing so far this year, I wanted to share a recipe for a frozen treat that will hopefully help you beat the heat and keep cool. During the Holidays I like to make many variations of chocolate bark to hand out to family and friends as gifts. What is chocolate bark you ask. Chocolate bark is essentially melted chocolate combined with a variety of add-ins like peanuts, almonds, dried fruit and even pretzels, laid out on to a baking tray covered in wax paper to cool and harden. It is basically like a homemade chocolate bar.

I must admit that even though our third day in Montreal was short lived it was my personal fave. Which says a lot because I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the city and I have already begun planning my return. Anyway, that morning, before we left the city and sat in ridiculous amounts of long weekend traffic, we decided to check out one of Montreal's famous markets as well as spend sometime exploring it's surrounding neighborhood. Something that I recently learned about Montreal is that, much like NYC, the city is divided into little boroughs; each with their own distinct personality and vibe. That morning we explored Little Burgundy, a vibrant little town home to local businesses, cool cafes and of course to Montreal's famous Atwater Market.

On day two of our trip we awoke to rainy and cloudy skies, however despite the drastic change from the previous day's weather we were determined to enjoy our first full day in the city. For breakfast we headed over to Hotel Europa on Drummond St. to dine at the Cora located inside. Cora is one of my favourite brunch spots; they offer a wide assortment of breakfast and lunch options at affordable prices. After brunch we spent the afternoon working off our meal with the help of a little retail cardio. We zipped in and out of our favourite stores along Saint-Catherine as well as took in the sights and sounds of Montreal's Caribbean parade.

Taking full advantage of Canada's biggest national holiday, as well as the official start of Summer, my family and I ventured out east to Montreal Quebec to spend the long weekend exploring the city. With it being my first time visiting Montreal I of course wanted to see and do just about everything there is to see and do in the city. So with that in mind our weekend agenda was jammed pack with activities, places to visit and things to see.

Thanks to the revival of the ballet flat I am now free to live out my childhood dream of being a Prima Ballerina. Growing up the girly girl that I was, and that I remain today, I was obsessed with all things girly; from Barbie dolls, to the colour pink, I was into it all. I even had an obsession with ballerinas, so much so that there was even a time when I took ballet. However, that didn't last long. Following my first set of lessons I discovered that I wasn't exactly cut out for the ballerina life, which then prompted me to hang up my tutu and slippers for good. So Misty Copeland can rest easy, I won't be coming for her title anytime soon. For now I'll stick to rocking ballet flats like these and living out my ballerina fantasies on the low. Over the years I've shared quite a few recipes here on the blog, the majority of them being for cookies. I guess it goes without saying that cookie are by far my favourite thing to bake. Over the last three years I have shared numerous recipes for a variety of seasons, like my ginger-bread cookies, as well as utilized quite a few seasonal ingredients like my original pumpkin spice and my pumpkin chocolate chip recipes. Today however I want to take it back a bit and share a recipe for one of my all time fave cookies, Oatmeal Raisin. These cookies are everything I love about cookies. They are soft, they are chewy, they are sweet and most importantly they are loaded with raisins. Now I know raisins can be a controversial topic so if that scares you off I suggest you eighty-six the dehydrated grapes and swap in something else. Chocolate chips, cranberries, and any sort of chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans would serve as a tasty alternative.

Just out of curiosity how many of you are tired of hearing about these brow products, because it feels like just about everyone is obsessed with them. Today I'm here to tell you all that isn't the case for me. About two years ago I gave into the hype and picked up the brow whiz pencil after hearing nothing but good things. I am sure you are all familiar with the retractable pencil with the spoolly on the other end. Well, I gave that pencil a go for what had to have been 3 1/2 weeks before the pencil broke and it was donezo. To say I was disappointed would be putting it mildly. You'd think after spending so much on a brow pencil and it being a such a popular brand the thing would last more than a couple of weeks. Anyway, after that I gave up on the brand and went back to my original method of filling in my brows.
No-Bake Nutella Pretzel Power Bites

Today we are officially bringing back the power bites! I haven't made a batch of this bite sized delights in what feels like a forever, which is why today I just have to share with you this recipe that incorporates two of my favourite things; Nutella and Nutella Coated Pretzels. Much like my previous power bite recipe this one also doesn't require any baking, which means that it is super beginner friendly. So without further ado lets get on with the recipe.
