Havana Travel Diary

This past May my mother and I decided to go on a girls trip to Varadero Cuba, to vacation on their sandy beaches and enjoy some time away from life's usual stresses. I am a strong believer that a good vacation can do wonders for your soul. There is something about getting away for a few days that allows you to press restart and recharge your batteries. Prior to this trip I haven't had an actual vacation, one where I was able to swim in an ocean or relax on a beach, in about 5 years. So it is safe to say I really needed this trip.
Usual on my trips I like to be pretty active and explore my new surroundings, however that was not the case this time. I knew early on that I wanted this trip to be solely about relaxing and enjoying each others company so my usual planning and trip itinerary was caste aside. That being said we did plan a day trip into Havana to explore the historic city. I have always heard that visiting the city of Havana is like stepping out of a time machine and I definitely understand why. From the architecture to the old fashioned cars, appropriately called older timers by the locals, the entire city feels like it is set in another time period; which I believe adds to its charm.
Anyway I hope you enjoy these series of photos I took on our tour through Old Town Havana. Our nice tour guide took us around all of the popular sites in Havana, including some history/ art museums, the National Ballet School, The Capital building (El Capitolio), Revolution Square, to name a few. It was a bit of a whirlwind trip but I thoroughly enjoyed our time and I can't wait to visit the city again.

I present to you the final installment of my New York City Travel Diary. Long over due, I know. I honestly forgot just how many photos I had to sort through; a sign of a great trip I assure you. Day three, much like our second day, was jammed packed with activities and sights to see. We began our day on the Upper East Side exploring Central Park. But before we entered the park we had to make a pit stop at the Plaza Hotel. The Plaza has secured its spot as one of NYC most iconic landmarks. Personally I think it is due to the popular Eloise Children Books as well as the squeal for Home Alone (which just so happens to be my favourite Home Alone film). That being said, I am sure some could argue alternative reasons for the Plaza hotel being as well known as it is, but those are mine.

I must admit that even though our third day in Montreal was short lived it was my personal fave. Which says a lot because I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the city and I have already begun planning my return. Anyway, that morning, before we left the city and sat in ridiculous amounts of long weekend traffic, we decided to check out one of Montreal's famous markets as well as spend sometime exploring it's surrounding neighborhood. Something that I recently learned about Montreal is that, much like NYC, the city is divided into little boroughs; each with their own distinct personality and vibe. That morning we explored Little Burgundy, a vibrant little town home to local businesses, cool cafes and of course to Montreal's famous Atwater Market.

On day two of our trip we awoke to rainy and cloudy skies, however despite the drastic change from the previous day's weather we were determined to enjoy our first full day in the city. For breakfast we headed over to Hotel Europa on Drummond St. to dine at the Cora located inside. Cora is one of my favourite brunch spots; they offer a wide assortment of breakfast and lunch options at affordable prices. After brunch we spent the afternoon working off our meal with the help of a little retail cardio. We zipped in and out of our favourite stores along Saint-Catherine as well as took in the sights and sounds of Montreal's Caribbean parade.

Taking full advantage of Canada's biggest national holiday, as well as the official start of Summer, my family and I ventured out east to Montreal Quebec to spend the long weekend exploring the city. With it being my first time visiting Montreal I of course wanted to see and do just about everything there is to see and do in the city. So with that in mind our weekend agenda was jammed pack with activities, places to visit and things to see.
